This study
was a submitted as a master thesis in political science at
Stuttgart university in 1986. In chapter 1 the author focuses
on the theoretical approaches to arms control and stability,
in chapter 2 the role of and dependence on military satellites
are described for both the US and the Soviet Union, in chapter
3 the vulnerabilities of these satellites for Anti-satellite
systems (ASAT) are analysed and in chapter 4 the approaches
for dealing with ASAT systems in the framework of arms control
initiatives are being reviewed.
