This report is based on a diploma thesis that was submitted in July 1995 at the department of Social Sciences at J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt on Main. After a brief introduction the study reviews in chapter 2 the literature on the domestic conflict as a topic of international politics, chapter 3 discusses competencies of the United Nations in domestic conflicts and reviews its concepts of peace and security in general and in chapter 4, Liese analyses the post-conflict peace building in Cambodia in the framework of UNTAC and in chapter 5 she draws general conclusions. The study includes a 17 page bibliography and a brief biography of the author.
